OPPO has just unveiled its new flagship Find X8 Pro phone during a highly anticipated launch event in Bali, Indonesia. There’s plenty to talk about; but the highlight of this phone has to be the remarkable camera performance – courtesy of OPPO’s continued relationship with high-end Swedish imaging equipment manufacturer Hasselblad. OPPO, via media releases before the launch, had already promised the phone would “change the game” with its thin and light design, which they claim isn’t typical of other powerhouse phones. Pete Lau, SVP and Chief Product Officer at OPPO, says they have “broken through barriers that have held smartphones back for generations”. This is in reference to the ultra-grade cameras, ultra-long-lasting battery life, and ultra-powerful performance, all within an exquisite, ultra-slim form factor.
Global technology brand OPPO was founded in 2004 in Dongguan, China, and markets itself as the world’s leading smart device brand. The Find X8 Pro phone's release, referred to as the ‘Ultimate Mobile Camera Experience’, continues OPPO’s vision to create cutting-edge designs and advanced features, particularly in areas like camera innovation. This is exciting news all around, since the Find X7 wasn’t available globally, and phone enthusiasts outside China will now be able to experience the premium quality of an OPPO flagship.
Premium, elegant, and durable
The phone is exceptionally premium and uses a rich glass and aluminium construction. It comes with an expansive 6.78” Infinite View Display. OPPO’s Infinite View Display essentially merges the best features of their curved and flat screens to create an immersive, and comfortable, viewing experience. OPPO has made the Find X8 Pro incredibly durable and ensured you get the best in smartphone water and dust resistance, with its IP68 & IP69 rating.
The Find X8 Pro is available in Space Black and Pearl White. Those who buy the Pearl White variant will get an element of exclusivity to their phone, with each Pearl White phone getting a unique pearlescent pattern, meaning no two phones will be the same.
Camera performance – class of its own
The standout feature in this phone is by far the camera system and OPPO certainly isn’t hiding this, evidenced by its reference to the Find X8 Pro as the Ultimate Mobile Camera Experience. Users will get a Quad Main Camera System, including a world-first. The Find X8 Pro will be the first globally available phone to include two periscope cameras. This enables the phone to offer a huge range in the zoom department (up to a whopping 120x), which is only enhanced by its AI capabilities. OPPO had promised the high-end camera will have AI features and they’ve certainly delivered. One of those features is AI Telescope Zoom, which can create photos at up to 120x, however, it should be noted that OPPO does suggest up to 60x for the best quality. It’s not all about zoom capabilities though. Another world’s first is the optical 135mm portraits for high-impact and dynamic photos of people and pets, something you’ll only find in the Find X8 series. ‘Lightning Snap’ mode has also been perfected to ensure you can capture frames at up to seven frames per second. This means you won’t have to miss any memories, no matter how fast-paced they are. The camera’s skillset doesn’t stop at still images either, with its ability to record Dolby Vision HDR video at up to 4K resolution and at 60fps. Overall, the OPPO Find X8 Pro looks like a brilliant choice for creators, and anyone wanting to utilise the camera and video capabilities on their mobile phone. With an extensive resume in the camera department, the OPPO and Hasselblad collab looks like the phone to beat as far as cameras go.
Flagship performance
Under the hood, the Find X8 Pro is powered by the latest MediaTek Dimensity 9400 chipset. The MediaTek Dimensity chips are fitting for a flagship phone and compete directly with the Snapdragon 8 Elite from Qualcomm. Given its very recent release, the OPPO Find X8 Pro will be one of the first phones to have this chipset. Early testing shows that both Qualcomm and Mediatek’s chipsets are neck and neck, and both will be able to handle pretty much anything you throw at them. The Find X8 Pro will feature custom-built cooling systems which use a high-performance vapour chamber, graphite layer, and thermal conductive gel to dissipate heat efficiently and enable the phone to effortlessly deliver ultra-powerful performance. The aforementioned performance isn’t hindered by subpar battery life, with a battery capacity that is quite literally unrivalled. The Find X8 Pro gets a whopping 5910mAh battery capacity. If you’re not clued up on the battery capacities of the latest phones, let’s just say the capacity of the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, another flagship Android phone, is 4855mAh. OPPO has also utilised its Trinity Engine technology to optimize the performance delivered by the high-end chipset. The technology uses features like smart caching to optimise system performance and enhance data speed for both the CPU and GPU. It also has a strong software accelerator which delivers a 3x improvement in algorithm efficiency. This improves system smoothness by up to 22%, ensuring a seamless user experience.
New operating system
Alongside the Find X8 series, OPPO launched ColorOS 15, their newest operating system. ColorOS 15 brings a host of improvements and features to the table. Thanks to OPPO’s Luminous Rendering Engine, ColorOS 15 will be incredibly fluid, with an 18% faster touch response and 40% superior stability. OPPO says the new ColorOS 15 will “set the bar for ultra-smooth experiences and ultra-smart AI capabilities”. There’s no doubt the combination of the premium flagship phone, and a refined operating system, will bring users an ultra-performance experience.
AI Features
OPPO AI plays a big role in this phone, from enhancing the camera capabilities with its wide range of features to aiding you throughout the day as you complete various tasks on your phone.
On the camera side of things, features like AI Reflection Remover, AI Eraser, and AI Unblur are among the many new tools that complement the camera hardware so well. Alongside these, features like AI Writer, AI Assistant for Notes and AI Summary bring AI to almost every inch of your phone and allow you to speed up productivity big time. AI Assistant, for example, can clean up grammar and polish your writing in one click. It also offers coherent follow-up text based on your existing writing to spark ideas and keep the content going.
