Wondering how to take a screenshot on your Samsung device? It’s easy. All you need to do is press the volume down and power button simultaneously, and you’ll have a screenshot sitting in your gallery.

If that technique doesn’t work, don’t panic, it simply means the Samsung device you’re using doesn't have that functionality and there’s a number of other ways you can get a picture of your screen.

In this article I’ll explain how to take a screenshot on any Samsung device using a variety of methods. I’ll also explain added functions that might come in handy when doing so.

How to take a screenshot on a Samsung Phone/Tablet

For most Samsung devices, the easiest way to take a screenshot is by pressing the volume down button and the power button at the same time, see below:

When you do this, you’ll know you’ve taken a screenshot because the screen will flash. You’ll then be able to find the image in your photo gallery.

If you’re using an older Samsung device with a home button in the middle of the screen instead of on the side, you'll need to press the volume down and the home button simultaneously.

Again, you’ll know you’ve taken a screenshot when the screen flashes.

Alternative methods to take a screenshot on a Samsung device

Palm Swipe to Capture Gesture

Another way to take a screenshot on a Samsung device is using the Palm Swipe gesture. Most Samsung devices support this, however, lower end phones and tablets may not be compatible.

  1. There’s a quick way to check if your device supports the Palm Swipe to Capture feature:
    • Go into your phone's settings
    • Scroll down to advanced features
    • Select motion and gestures and then toggle Palm Swipe to Capture on. If you cannot see this option, your phone doesn't support this feature.

  1. To perform this gesture, you need to hold your hand like you’re going to perform a karate chop. Hold the outside of your hand (the pinky finger side) on the left edge of the screen and drag your hand from left to right.

  2. If the screen flashes, you’ll know it has worked. Find the screenshot in your gallery.

 Voice Commands

If you’ve set up Bixby or Google Assistant on your Samsung device, another easy way to take a screenshot is by saying “Hey Bixby, take a screenshot” or “Hey Google, take a screenshot.”

You’ll know this has worked if the screen flashes.

S Pen

If you’re using a Samsung device that’s compatible with the S Pen, you can take a screenshot using the Screen Write feature.

Simply follow these steps:

  1. Take your S Pen out, this should automatically open the Air command menu. If it doesn’t, hover the pen over the screen and tap the S Pen button.
  2. From there tap Screen Write and your phone will take a screenshot.

How to take a long screenshot on a Samsung device

Samsung devices have the Scroll Capture feature, which allows you to take a single screenshot of content that spans multiple screens, like a long webpage or a chat feed.

Instead of taking multiple screenshots, Scroll Capture quickly stitches multiple images together to create a single image.

Here’s how you do it:

  1. Perform a screenshot using one of the methods above.
  2. A toolbar will appear at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Tap the Scroll Capture button (see below) and keep tapping it until you’re at the bottom of what you want to screenshot.

  4. Find the single, long screenshot in your photo gallery.
