When ‘Fold’ and ‘Flip’ phones first began appearing on the market, some were wowed by them, while others couldn’t quite get their heads around the futuristic phones that somehow manage to also be reminiscent of phones from the past. Well, as they say, don’t knock it till you’ve tried it. When I had a bit of a play with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 recently, I was almost immediately ready to make the move from my current daily driver. I haven’t quite yet, but that was six days ago, so a switch may not be that far off.
In an age where we are inevitably more and more reliant on the little computers in our pocket, the unique form factor that both of these phones bring to the table, is certainly worth a look.

Rather than a standard smartphone experience where menus are condensed, you will at times be able to enjoy a user experience that is closer to that of a desktop!

One of the main things you get with a bigger display is much more flexibility in your multitasking. Unlike most phones, the Fold6 is really knocking on the door of being a laptop replacement, with its ability to get so many of our daily productivity tasks done. In fact, the Fold6 comes pre-loaded with the Microsoft Office Suite.
Thanks to ‘Multi-Active Windows’ and personalised app pairings, you can easily split your screen and have multiple apps or windows open at once. Now you can check your calendar while writing an email, write notes while watching a video, message someone while reviewing a presentation, and so much more. Your workflow becomes much more efficient and convenient when you don’t have to toggle back and forth between apps. To go back to full screen on a single app, simply swipe the app you want to close from the center of the display to the edge.
Another perk of the multi-window functionality is the ability to further streamline the way you work. With two windows open, you can drag and drop images and text between apps and windows just like you would on your PC. As you can imagine, this functionality can be a godsend when you’re trying to get things done on the fly.
Capture the Best Selfies
The Galaxy Z Fold6 will change the way you take selfies or group photos. Using ‘Flex Mode’, you can split the camera onto the top half of the phone and have the bottom half sitting on a flat surface, then simply wave the palm of your hand to trigger the timer. This is perfect for taking solo or group landscape photos without a tripod! It even works great with portrait photos. Have your phone propped up, with it opened to roughly 90 degrees, and the phone will support itself as it takes gorgeous portrait flicks of you. Additionally, Dual Preview lets you display the photo preview on both sides of the phone, so you can use the front camera and still check the other screen to make sure everyone looks good and is in frame before the photo is taken.
Enhance Your Gaming
The Galaxy Z Fold6 takes your gaming experiences to the next level. Its expansive display and 120Hz refresh rate offer top-notch smartphone gaming. This high refresh rate reduces the chance of experiencing lag or stuttering, resulting in smoother and more immersive gameplay. Plus, the broad 7.6-inch unfolded display breathes life into your games and offers a more immersive experience. Additionally, with Flex Mode, you can game on the top part of the screen while utilising the controls on the bottom half.

This has to be the first feature we talk about. After all, this is a phone that can become half the size in, quite literally, a flip. Some people prefer their phones to be smaller and easier to navigate and carry, while others prefer going for the biggest screen they can get. The good news is Samsung has both parties covered with either the Flip6 or the Fold6. If you’re in the former group, the compact design of the Flip6 is quite literally unmatched. You may be able to find a smaller smartphone out there, but chances are it won’t flip back up to full size with the performance of a flagship phone, meaning Samsung’s most compact smartphone ever, is once again in a class of its own. Portability aside, the smaller form factor, when you choose to employ it, means your phone itself can help you in your journey towards better productivity and less phone-related distraction. Keep the essentials but tune out of the unnecessary with FlexWindow - the smaller screen that can still be used in Flex Mode (when the phone is folded).
Stunning Foldable Display
When at full mast, the 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display is super crisp and buttery smooth and delivers everything you would expect from a Samsung display. The cool part though is the features available through FlexWindow. You can still receive notifications, send AI-curated messages, and even take pictures using FlexCam. In fact, for those who find themselves needing translations, you can even use FlexWindow to create live translations. FlexWindow allows your conversation partner to view live translations on one side of the phone screen while you communicate through the other.
Durability
Each new gen of the Flip range gets better and the Flip6 is no exception. The hinge has been improved and Samsung has used Gorilla Glass Victus 2, meaning you get all the benefits of this flexible phone, without the risks. This is backed up by Samsung’s claim that both the Flip6 and the Fold6 are designed to withstand over 200,000 folding and unfolding cycles on average.

With an upgraded 50MP wide rear camera, the Galaxy Flip6 has the most powerful camera ever seen on a Flip. Now with AI, the rear camera will process your pictures through ProVisual Engine, Samsung’s suite of AI-powered tools. Best of all, use FlexCam for hands-free selfies and change the way you take photos forever.
High-End Performance
You don’t have to give up performance when going for a unique Flip6 phone. The newest model has the biggest battery yet on a Flip which, when coupled with the powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, makes for an extremely capable smartphone. Watch videos for up to 23 hours and utilise the wide range of Galaxy AI features without worrying; Samsung has added a vapour chamber to the Flip6 which helps to dissipate heat much quicker and keep your phone primed for performance.
