If you are thinking about buying an electric scooter, this might just be the sign you were waiting for. Whether you are tired of sitting in traffic, done with endless loops searching for parking, or simply want a smoother, more enjoyable way to move through the city, e-scooters are becoming the go-to choice for everyday transport. And for good reason.
Each year, the category evolves with better motors, smarter safety tech, comfier suspension, longer range, and faster charging. It is not just about getting from A to B anymore. It is about doing it cleaner, quicker, cheaper, and with a little more joy.
To help you cut through the noise, we have put together a powerful lineup of standout scooters, each serving a different type of rider. Whether you are after a rock-solid commuter, a plush step up in comfort, a budget-friendly winner, or a beast that handles city asphalt and weekend dirt tracks, you will find something that fits.
We are focusing only on the things that actually matter out on the road: speed, handling, tyres, suspension, power, and build quality. And at the end, you will find a fast Q and A section tackling the questions we get asked the most.
Xiaomi Electric Scooter 5 and 5 Pro, Everyday Reliability Meets Everyday Comfort
The Xiaomi 5 series is what happens when a brand keeps refining what commuters actually want: comfort, efficiency, and a balanced price. The Xiaomi Electric Scooter 5 is built for the daily grind, work runs, study runs, supermarket missions, and weekend cafe hops. It glides on 10-inch tubeless tyres paired with front dual spring suspension, and that combo works overtime to absorb cracks, bumps, and rough urban surfaces.
With a 25 km per hour top speed, up to 60 km range, a dependable 477 Wh battery, and 120 kg rider capacity, it fits almost anyone’s daily schedule without stress. The braking setup, front drum plus rear E ABS, keeps things smooth, controlled, and low maintenance.
If you want the same great platform but with noticeably more muscle, the Xiaomi 5 Pro takes everything up a notch. You get rear spring suspension as well, plus a motor that pushes up to 1000 W max and tackles 22 percent inclines with ease. Same top speed, same range, same brilliant ride feel, just more push when you need it.
These are not flashy scooters. They are dependable scooters, the kind that become part of your daily rhythm.

I don't understand how a 3000w 70km/h scooter like the Segway Ninebot GT2 falls in the "no license required" category which is for vehicles 300w and under. You say "all our models meet the NZ specifications for no licence required". How can this be? What am I misunderstanding?

Hi Jason, you're correct about that. This scooter was added to the list recently and the FAQs hadn't been updated to reflect this so thanks for pointing that out! The Ninebot GT2 should be reserved for off-road and private land use.
