Sony takes its time with flagship true wireless earbuds, and the new WF-1000XM6 is no different. The 1000X formula is back with its latest iteration, a careful refinement of what Sony already does best: noise cancellation, sound tuning, and practical usability.
Echoing the sentiment we saw after the launch of the WH-1000XM6 (that's the big over-ears for those who are intimidated by numbers), Sony has again claimed the "World's Best Noise Cancelling" title. Let's see what else they can do.
Design
The WF series has never been one to shout for attention, and the WF-1000XM6 sticks to that philosophy, but with meaningful refinements where it matters. Sony has reworked the ergonomics with a new fit that feels lighter, more secure, and more balanced, reducing unnecessary pressure during long listening sessions.
Finish-wise, Black delivers understated luxury with a soft matte texture, while Platinum Silver feels lighter and more modern without tipping into flashiness. If you’re already running Sony’s WH-1000XM6 over-ears, the colourways line up nicely across the range.
The charging case has also had a noticeable redesign. It’s compact, pocket-friendly, supports Qi wireless charging, and now features a flat-bottom design, meaning it can stand upright on a desk, a small but also practical upgrade that makes day-to-day use feel more considered.

Noise Cancelling
The headline feature. The WF-1000XM6 claims to deliver the world’s best noise cancelling. It should be noted that this is current as of December 1 2025, and according to research carried out by Sony Corporation, where they measured TWS noise-cancelling headphones from the top 10 brands by market share.
At the core is a dual-processor system, similar in philosophy to Sony’s WH-1000XM6 over-ears. The Integrated Processor V2 analyses sound and fit in real time, while the new HD Noise Cancelling Processor QN3e takes control of the microphones to suppress everyday noise with greater precision. Add Multi Noise Sensor technology and Adaptive NC Optimiser, and Sony claims a 25% improvement in noise-cancelling performance over the WF-1000XM5.
Ambient Sound mode is still here too, subtly adjusting awareness without pulling you out of the listening experience.
Sound Quality
Sony hasn’t leaned on processing alone. The WF-1000XM6 introduces new in-house drivers and an updated acoustic design, developed alongside mastering engineers to deliver a sound that’s detailed, balanced, and designed for long listening sessions, not quick demos.
Support for Hi-Res Audio Wireless via LDAC, DSEE upscaling, and 360 Reality Audio makes the most of these earbuds on Android, while AAC support ensures Apple users aren’t left behind. A new 10-band EQ in the Sony Sound Connect app on both Android and iOS gives you more control than previous generations, whether you want subtle tweaks or a full custom profile.

Call Quality
Call performance has had a serious upgrade this generation. Extra microphones, AI beamforming, and a bone-conduction sensor work together to isolate your voice while suppressing background noise. The result is clearer, more natural calls, even in busy environments.
Sony is confident enough to call this its best call quality ever, and it’s easy to see why.
Google Gemini AI integration also makes an appearance, enabling hands-free assistance for compatible Android users, a forward-looking addition that could certainly be useful.
Battery Life and Everyday Use
Battery life remains solid and dependable: up to 8 hours on the earbuds, with up to 24 hours total including the charging case. Fast charging is still here too, with just 5 minutes of charging delivering up to an hour of playback, ideal when you’re heading out the door.
You also get all the expected flagship essentials: Bluetooth multipoint, IPX4 sweat and water resistance, and full control through Sony’s Sound Connect app.
Start Listening Now
The WF-1000XM6 isn’t about reinventing the wheel. It’s about refining every part of Sony’s already strong formula. World-class noise cancelling, a more natural and comfortable fit, richer sound tuned by mastering engineers, and Sony’s best call quality to date make this the most complete WF model yet.
