In the bustling smartphone market, the brand 'Nothing' emerges as a breath of fresh air with its avant-garde approach to technology. Founded in 2020 by tech entrepreneur Carl Pei, who co-founded OnePlus, Nothing set out to bring simple but powerful tech to the market, creating devices that marry form and function in the most seamless way possible.
The name ‘Nothing’ says something about where the brand is going. According to Carl Pei, "If the user experience is seamless, you don’t really have to think about it all the time, it sort of becomes muscle memory and it fades into the background, into nothing”. Other features that serve as their cornerstones include:
- A unique LED glyph design on the rear
- Powerful cameras and image processing
- Balance of affordability and performance
- Bespoke Nothing OS and UI
- OLED Display
Earlier this year, Nothing released their second-generation flagship smartphone, the Nothing Phone (2). The Phone (2) introduces the new Glyph interface at the rear, helping users minimise screen interactions by offering access to key information at a glance. It also runs on the overhauled Nothing OS 2.0, rooted in utility and designed to reduce distractions, while delivering a swift and fluid experience.
"With Phone (2), we deliver top-notch features while encouraging more intentional smartphone usage through hardware and software design innovation," said Carl Pei, CEO and Co-founder of Nothing. "The smartphone is a vital tool in our lives, but it has increasingly become a distracting force, making us less present and less creative."
The Phone (2) is powered by the top-of-the-line Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 Mobile Platform, delivering fast performance and lasting battery life to power through the day. It also features Nothing’s most premium display to date. A 6.7” LTPO OLED display with an adaptive refresh rate from 120Hz-1Hz offers a perfect balance between power conservation and peak performance.

Powerful camera upgrades are a part of the package in the Phone (2), offering Nothing’s most premium package yet. On the rear, it sports two advanced 50MP sensors, with a main sensor upgraded to the Sony IMX890; and on the front, it sports a 32 MP camera. Additionally, it boasts an advanced 18-bit ISP (processor) for superior photo and video accuracy. It also offers professional-grade video with 4K 60fps recording on the rear, complemented by Action mode, EIS, and OIS for smooth footage, and a front camera capable of 1080p 60fps.
To top it off, Nothing has an ongoing commitment to sustainability. The Phone (2) achieves a 5kg reduction of CO2, with the use of recycled aluminum, tin, copper, steel, and plastic parts contributing to this. Additionally, zero waste from the assembling process ends up in landfills, and 100% renewable energy is used across the final assembly plant and the recycled aluminum production plant.
