Sony has just released the latest iteration of its award-winning flagship headphones – the Sony WH-1000XM5 wireless noise-cancelling headphones. This new edition follows on from the WH-1000XM4s, delivering an immersive sound experience with industry-leading noise cancellation, top-tier audio quality, and a refreshed design with improved comfortability. In line with the launch of the WH-1000XM5 headphones, Sony has partnered with global superstar and Sony Music Entertainment artist, Khalid.
"As an artist and music fan, quality listening is important to me and Sony's new WH-1000XM5 headphones deliver quality music experiences in a big way," says Khalid. "The noise-cancelling really makes you feel closer to the music and hear all the details in a song, transporting you to a different world which is how I love to experience music."
The 1000X series has long set the standard for elite noise cancellation and the 1000XM5 takes it to another level, featuring Sony's most remarkable noise-cancelling technology yet. Specially developed by Sony, the new Integrated Processor V1 unlocks the full potential of the HD Noise Cancelling Processor QN1. With these two processors controlling eight microphones, the 1000XM5 takes a massive step forward to deliver unprecedented noise-cancelling quality. Ambient sound is captured even more accurately for a dramatic reduction in high-frequency noise, and thanks to Auto NC Optimiser, the noise-cancelling performance is always and automatically optimised based on wearing conditions and external environmental factors. Working in unison with the specially designed 30mm driver unit, these features create incomparable noise cancellation that allows you to completely switch off the world around you.
When it comes to sound quality, you can trust that the audio delivered by the 1000XM5 is top-tier and Sony’s industry-adopted audio coding technology, LDAC3, lets you take it one step further. This technology allows you to enjoy premium, High-Resolution Audio, with or without wires. All music will be restored back to high-range sound with DSEE Extreme™4 that upscales digital music files in real-time, allowing every user to appreciate each detail the artist intended in their favourite tracks. These headphones are also 360 Reality Audio Certified meaning they can be enjoyed with custom immersive music experiences.
Sony has also highlighted improved call quality in the 1000XM5s. Equipped with four beamforming microphones and an AI-based noise reduction algorithm, these headphones are calibrated to precisely pick up your voice. An improved signal-to-noise ratio enables them to catch every single word, even when there's a lot of noise around. Now, a busy street or a noisy work environment can be the perfect place for a call with family, friends or colleagues.
While the Sony WH-1000XM4s had already set a high bar for wireless noise-cancellation headphones, Sony has pushed the bar further with the 1000XM5s, offering up better audio, noise-cancellation, and voice quality.

Hey Rich, yes they are, the microphone improvements are quite substantial, and they connect much faster in multipoint mode than the XM4 do. Thanks
