A really good PC build is the result of many smart component choices along the way, and if it's a gaming system running at full speed, then managing all that heat through cooling components is essential.
There are a few options in this space, but one of the most popular quiet fan brands is aptly named be quiet!, and they’ve just unveiled their latest Light Wings series of 120mm or 140mm fans which combine their usual quiet cooling design experience, with some rather elegant addressable RGB added to the frame.
This isn’t the first time the be quiet! team have dabbled in LED, their current AiO Silent Loop series also feature addressable RGB lighting on the CPU block, as does their 500D(X) chassis series with similar path lighting on the front of the case, and a small bit on the side. What’s important here is that be quiet! implemented the ARGB features on both in a great way and they’re able to be controlled via either a hardware controller or via the ARGB motherboard header and software suites such as Asus AURA and Gigabyte FUSION, so we’re very excited to see the integrated connectivity with new Light Wings fan series.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The motherboard header cable on be quiet! Light Wings Fans is 5V ARGB type.
In the new range, there are Light Wings 120mm and 140mm high speed options, available as singles or in packs of three. All operate via PWN 4-pin fan headers allowing for easy adjustments of curves to optimise, looking at the 120mm Light Wings High Speed Fan specifically it’s got a remarkably low performance-to-noise ratio with 31dB(A) at the 2,500rpm max speed. The quality has not been compromised and the rifle bearings are rated for 60,000 hours of use with a 3-year warranty as standard.
The lighting is double-sided, though significantly thicker on the intake side. The 120mm version contains 18 individually addressable LED to allow for special effects and further customisation. The fan blades are black in colour and catch a little of the light in the grooves, but not too much.
The 140mm version increased the individual LED count to 20, and at 2200 max RPM is still only 31dB(A), in real-world noise comparison that’s somewhere above the sound we make when breathing and being in a library, super quiet indeed! The larger size offered by the Light Wings 140mm PWM fans makes these the right choice for any high cooling performance case configuration. Its seven airflow-optimised fan blades not only reduce noise-generating turbulences but also ensure Light Wings fans provide the performance that is needed so you can do what you want to do - quietly - while also looking awesome.
The 3x Fan Kits for both 120mm and 140mm include the be quiet! ARGB hub too, this allows for 6x ARGB devices to be connected in and is powered by a single SATA, great for anyone wanting to fully kit out their build with the new addressable components.
The new Light Wings PWM fans are incoming to New Zealand right now and will be available very soon, so be sure to keep your eyes on the be quiet! store for the latest.
