It's certainly obvious that great single player gaming experiences have been a priority for Sony, evident from the list of PS4 exclusives with critical acclaim. It seems likely that they have every intention of carrying that tradition forward into the next generation of consoles. High quality story-telling and gameplay almost seem like a given at this point, but the graphics we have seen so far are on another level. With lightning speed, created by a custom CPU, GPU, and an SSD with Integrated I/O, the PS5's performance will be greater than the sum of its parts. This means that some things only PC gamers could hope for, such as ray-tracing, high framerates, and 4K+ resolutions, are actually achievable at a more affordable price point!
Here are some PS exclusives coming soon that you should definitely keep an eye out for.
Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales
This title will follow on from the great story and fantastic gameplay that Insomniac weaved together in the first game. We'll be focused on Miles as he grapples with his new powers and responsibilities, following in the footsteps of his mentor, Peter Parker. When a fierce power struggle erupts in his new home, Miles has to come to terms with the pressure of being Spider-Man, and what that means to him.
Insomniac's last effort with the Spider-Man series had some stunning visuals for the time. With the PS5 pumping out more power, it's looking to be a significant graphical improvement on what was already a stunning game.
Luckily for us, Insomniac also was kind enough to remaster the first game in the series, Marvel's Spider-Man, which will give us the chance to relive that awesome game. It will come as a free voucher when you purchase Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, with all of the graphical, loading, and framerate benefits.
Horizon Forbidden West
Horizon Forbidden West will continue Aloy’s story as she travels to the Forbidden West, a mysterious new frontier with a whole new world to explore and threats to face. Return to the distant future of the post apocalyptic world of Horizon; explore distant lands, fight bigger and more awe-inspiring machines, and encounter astonishing new tribes.
The first game in the Horizon series granted players the opportunity to explore an open world. An open world that was much deeper than the standard, vast world of other games, that was only a couple of inches deep. The story of Horizon intertwines with its environment, sacrificing neither to create a complete experience, with no elements feeling like they are just there to pad game time.
Forbidden West seems set on stepping these expectations up a notch, showcasing beautiful new environments to explore and exciting enemies to overcome. The new frontier looks like it will be ripe with opportunities to explore lush forests, sunken cities and towering mountains of a far-future America as you unravel the mysteries of this world.
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
Ratchet & Clank are synonymous with Playstation at this point, with the first being released in 2002 on the Playstation 2. Another Insomniac developed series (so you know it's good), Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart follows on from their 2016 title. The aptly named Ratchet & Clank was a re-imagining of the first game from 18 years ago now! It wrapped in everything the series has had success with in the past, touting great visuals, fun and diverse gameplay and a hilarious storyline. Insomniac seem keyed into the importance of these elements now and how to best work them into a game. In the 18 years since the first game in this series, Insomniac has had and adapt or die mentality, you can just about be guaranteed this game will be great.
If you're looking for a game that is genuinely fun for everyone, look no further than these two installments in this classic Playstation series. Whether you're coming into it with nostalgia, or looking for a slightly more sophisticated game for your favourite kid, Ratchet & Clank will be sure to please.
