The PS5 DualSense controller is pretty good value, it doesn’t require batteries, it boasts advanced haptic feedback features and adaptive triggers with variable resistance levels. It’s arguably the best gaming controller on the market. And with more and more Sony exclusives coming to PC, you may be wondering if it's possible to connect the PS5 controller to a PC. The good news is it is possible, and it's very easy.

There are two ways to do it. You can opt for a wired connection for charging while gaming, or you can opt for a wireless connection via Bluetooth, so cables don’t get in the way.

In this article, I’ll explain the easiest ways to connect a PS5 controller to a PC and I’ll also recommend what we think are the best products for the job.

How to connect a PS5 controller to a PC

Wired Connection

The easiest way to connect a PS5 controller to a PC is by simply plugging it in. The PS5 DualSense controller has a USB-C port so you’ll need a USB-C compatible cable. And you’ll need to have a look at what ports you have on your PC.

If your PC has a USB-C port we recommend using one of these USB-C to USB-C cables. This will provide faster charging capabilities and faster data transfer speeds.

If you don’t have a USB-C port on your PC, you can always use a USB-C to USB-A cable. While it won’t be quite as fast as the USB-C to USB-C cables above, it will work reliably.

When you’ve plugged your PS5 controller in, you can check to see if your PC has recognised it by following these steps:

For Windows 10 and 11

  • Press Windows + I to open Settings.
  • Go to Devices (Windows 10) or Bluetooth & devices (Windows 11).
  • Click on Devices
  • If your controller is connected, it should appear under the "Other devices" or "Connected devices" section as Wireless Controller or DualSense Wireless Controller.

Wireless Connection

If you’re not a fan of cables, you can always connect the PS5 controller to your PC via Bluetooth.

The first thing you’ll need to do is make sure your PC supports Bluetooth connections. To do that, follow these steps:

  • Press Windows + X and select Device Manager from the menu.
  • In the Device Manager window, look for a Bluetooth section.
  • If you see Bluetooth listed, your PC supports Bluetooth.
  • If you don't see it, it might be hidden or your PC may not have Bluetooth built-in.
  • If Bluetooth is listed but has a downward arrow icon, right-click on it and select Enable.

If your PC doesn’t support Bluetooth you can always use a Bluetooth dongle like the Sennheiser BTD 600 Bluetooth 5.2 USB Audio Dongle for PC, and follow the steps below.

Once you’ve set Bluetooth on your PC, all you need to do is follow these steps:

  1. Press and hold the PS button and Create button at the same time for about 5 seconds until the light bar starts flashing. This means the controller is in pairing mode.
  2. On your PC press Windows + I, go to Bluetooth & other devices and click Add Bluetooth or other device > Bluetooth.
  3. Your PC will scan for available Bluetooth devices. Select Wireless Controller or DualSense Wireless Controller from the list when it appears.
  4. Once paired, the controller’s light bar will stop flashing and stay steady, indicating it’s connected.
