Performance

Both models use AMD’s Ryzen Z-series processors built for handhelds, so you get strong performance without a bulky chassis. The ROG Xbox Ally pairs a Ryzen Z2 A processor with 16GB LPDDR5X memory, while the Ally X steps up to a Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme with 24GB LPDDR5X. In practice, that means faster scene loads, fewer stutters in busy areas, and better multitasking (launchers, overlays, voice chat) running alongside your game.

Display

Both models use a 7-inch Full HD (1920×1080) IPS touchscreen with a 120Hz refresh rate and variable refresh rate support (FreeSync Premium), so animations, camera pans, and fast inputs feel responsive. The 16:9 panel is a good fit for most PC titles without letterboxing, touch is handy for navigating Windows, and the wide viewing angles keep colours consistent when you’re on the couch or travelling. Typical brightness is up to 500 nits for better visibility in bright rooms.

Battery Life

The Ally includes a 60Wh battery; the Ally X increases capacity to 80Wh for longer play between charges. You can stretch battery life by choosing lower power targets, enabling frame rate caps, and using the 60Hz/120Hz toggle when a title doesn’t benefit from higher refresh. Both models charge over USB-C with the included 65W Power Delivery charger, so you can top up quickly during breaks. As always, actual runtime varies with game workload, screen brightness, refresh rate, and whether you’re streaming or running titles locally.

Storage & Memory

Out of the box, the Ally ships with a 512GB SSD and 16GB RAM; the Ally X ships with a 1TB SSD and 24GB RAM. The larger SSD in the Ally X gives you room for multiple AAA installs, while the extra memory helps with newer game engines, background apps, and future Windows updates. Both use M.2 2280 storage, making upgrades straightforward if you decide to expand later. There’s also microSD expansion for quick library growth or moving screenshots and captures without opening the chassis.

Connectivity

Both models include two USB-C ports, a microSD card slot, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth, and a 3.5mm headset jack. The key difference is that the Ally X upgrades one of its USB-C ports to USB4, which supports faster data transfer and external display options.  The Ally X also adds impulse-style trigger feedback for a more console-like feel in supported games.

Pre-Order NOW!

Whether you choose the standard Ally for its incredible value or the Ally X for its uncompromising power, you’re getting a device that’s built for the future of gaming.
