The DEEBOT X8 PRO OMNI is a premium robot vacuum and mop that doesn’t try to reinvent the wheel, but instead takes all the features you’d expect at this level and pushes them further.

It’s built for people who want powerful, hands-off cleaning in busy homes, especially ones with pets, carpets, and a mix of surfaces. It vacuums with serious power, scrubs the floor with a self-cleaning roller mop, and empties and washes itself at the dock.

While the core functionality is familiar, the performance and convenience here are about as high-end as robot vacuums get.

PROS CONS
  • Powerful 18,000 Pa suction
  • Effective self-cleaning roller mop
  • Low-maintenance OMNI base station
  • Slim design fits under furniture
  • Great pet hair pickup
  • Reliable app controls
  • Strong mapping
  • Can still get caught on cords
  • Voice assistant is hit or miss
  • Initial setup may take time

Price & Competition

The X8 Pro Omni is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum that, as of time of writing, costs $2,560. It’s not as expensive as the iRobot Roomba Combo J7+ which costs $3,398, but it’s a bit more expensive than lower tier options like the $1,299 Xiaomi X20 Max.

Design

Unlike the D-shaped X5 Pro OMNI, the X8 Pro OMNI returns to a more traditional circular design. It maintains the low-profile build, thanks to the embedded LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) instead of the tower you might find on other robot vacuums, measuring only 98mm tall so it can easily fit under a couch, bed or low shelves without getting stuck.

Interestingly, the D-shape of the X5 was introduced to allow it to get as close to corners and edges as possible, making the circular shape of the X8 feel like a step backwards. However the X8 can still clean right up to walls thanks to the extendable TruEdge roller mop (more on that below), and the vacuum brush that reaches wide enough to cover tight angles along skirting boards. The circular shape also helps it navigate better around furniture legs and in tighter spaces,

Overall it’s a functional, polished design that works really well for navigation and floor coverage, even if at first glance it looks like a backwards step.

Vacuuming

Like a lot of premium robot vacuums, the X8 Pro Omni is a dual-purpose robot vacuum, meaning it vacuums and it also mops, autonomously switching between the two by identifying hard flooring and carpets. It’s very good at both.

For vacuuming the X8 can reach 18,000 Pa (Pascals) of suction, which is among the highest rating on any robot vacuum currently available. It’s significantly more powerful than its predecessor, the Deebot X5 Pro Omni which maxed out at 12,800Pa.

This means it’s able to handle deep dirt from carpets, dust from floorboard gaps, and collect heavier debris like sand or pet hair. To put it simply, in the world of robot vacuums, it’s a beast. At the highest levels it uses the battery significantly quicker and it does make a bit more noise, but you can turn it down within the Ecovacs app.

Underneath it utilises what Ecovacs calls a ZeroTangle brush, though it’s not the same one you’ll find in the X5, it’s been upgraded to version 2.0.  It uses a V-shaped spiral brush that pulls hair into the centre, where comb-like teeth untangle it as the brush spins. The bristles are angled at 45 degrees, which helps stop hair from getting lodged deep inside. If that sounds confusing don’t worry, all you need to know is that ever since I’ve been using it, it hasn’t tangled once and I have two dogs.

The upgraded ZeroTangle brush uses a V-shape and combing teeth to stop hair wrapping. I’ve got two dogs, and it hasn’t clogged once.

Side brushes help sweep dust into the suction path, though like most robot vacs, it can still get tangled in cables or apron ties now and then.

Mopping

Like the brush, the mop has been redesigned as well. Instead of horizontally rotating, circular mopping pads, the X8 uses a vertically rotating cylindrical roller that scrubs as it moves. Ecovacs calls it the Ozmo Roller system and I certainly noticed its improved capabilities.

The roller applies downward pressure to physically free dirt and grim more effectively, rotating at 200 times per minute. As it cleans, fresh water is sprayed onto the mop while dirty water gets scraped off, so it’s always using clean water. And the new cylindrical design means the contact area is able to apply more pressure, not only helping to remove stubborn marks but also preventing streaks.

As expected, the mop lifts automatically when moving onto carpets. There's also a built-in cleaning sequence where the robot vacuums carpeted areas before it begins mopping hard floors, so you can reduce the risk of moisture being passed over even more.

What makes it stand out further is the inclusion of TruEdge technology. The mop can extend outwards from the circular chassis during cleaning, allowing it to reach closer to skirting boards and edges. It does this automatically and it works well. While it won’t be able to remove the most stubborn stains, it’s definitely one of the best robot vacuums for mopping.

OMNI Station

The OMNI Station where the vacuum goes to empty the dustbin, empty dirty mopping water, dry the mopping pads, refill itself with clean water and recharge the battery is more compact and sleek than its predecessor.

There’s a few quality of life upgrades here that I really like. The 4-litre bins for clean and dirty water can be seen from the outside meaning you can visually see when the tanks are full or empty without waiting for a notification on the app. Similarly, the bins are more easily accessible sitting nicely on top of the unit. There’s a mop washing tray in the bottom that helps catch unwanted water that can sometimes flood the vacuum dock and it’s much easier to place in the house thanks to its reduced size.

Like other hybrid robot vacuums it does everything you’d expect, it empties the internal dustbin, washes the roller mop using hot water, dries it with hot air, refills the onboard water tank, and drains the dirty water. It also has detergent dispensing functionality, making the cleaning process even more hands-off. The water temperature for mop washing is adjustable, ranging from 40 to 75 degrees Celsius, while the mop drying system operates at 63 degrees.

It works as well as it always has providing an almost fully autonomous vacuuming system. The only things you’ll have to do is empty the dirty water bin, fill the clean water bin, and empty or replace the dustbin. The amount of times you’ll have to do this will vary based on your cleaning needs, but for me cleaning it every morning, I needed to change the tanks once a week and the dustbin once a month. Not bad at all.

Navigation & Obstacles

When you first set up the vacuum it will map your house. It does this using LiDAR and visual AI which Ecovacs calls AIVI 3D 3.0. Mapping is fast and accurate.

It builds a layout of your home on the first run and automatically identifies separate rooms, providing a map of your house within the app.

You can customise room names, draw virtual boundaries to stop the vacuum from going into certain areas, and create cleaning schedules directly in the app.

I found the X8 moves efficiently through rooms and takes logical paths, even updating it’s movements based on new obstacles. For example, I have a room that has two doors going into it. I shut one of the doors that the X8 was heading towards and when it got there, it turned around, went to the other door and continued on its way.

For obstacle detection and avoidance, it again uses LiDAR but it also utilises a front facing camera, and a 3D edge sensor built into the unit. Unfortunately, I didn’t see much of an improvement in this area, it can easily avoid furniture legs and large objects on the floor like a book or a children's toy, but, just like the X5, there have been a few times where I’ve been alerted that the brush is tangled and I’d find it with a charging cable or the waist tie of a cooking apron wrapped up inside it.

It’s easily fixed, you can set boundaries and always simply pick up the things it gets caught in but it’s important to know that you still might have to prep your home for the X8 which is a bit of a shame.

App and Voice Control

The Ecovacs Home app provides full control over the robot’s settings. You can adjust suction levels, water usage, cleaning sequences, and scheduling. You can also see real-time cleaning maps, track where it’s been, and customise no-go zones. The layout is straightforward, and everything works as expected. The app has undergone a UI update so it’s cleaner, faster and easier to navigate.

There’s voice control here which is handled by Ecovacs’ in-house voice assistant, YIKO GPT. This is now powered by large language model technology, meaning it understands natural speech and can be used to trigger cleaning tasks, navigate to specific rooms, and even send the robot back to the station for mop cleaning, by talking to it or just sending it a message. It’s not the most comprehensive AI assistant I’ve used, it did get confused what I was saying a couple of times, responding with “Sorry, I didn’t hear clearly. Please wake me up,” but if you keep the commands quite basic, like “clean my house,” or “mop the kitchen” it works well.

It also supports Apple HomeKit out of the box.

Battery Life

The X8 PRO OMNI runs on a 6,400mAh battery. Runtime varies based on the cleaning mode, with around 134 minutes in standard cleaning conditions and up to 290 minutes in silent sweep mode. That’s enough to cover large areas on a single charge.

When it runs low, the robot returns to the station automatically to recharge, then resumes cleaning right where it left off, so in actual use the battery life isn’t really a major issue.

Verdict

The DEEBOT X8 PRO OMNI feels like Ecovacs are refining everything they’ve done well so far. The suction power is genuinely top tier, strong enough to pull dirt from deep in carpet or along skirting boards, and the new ZeroTangle 2.0 brush really works. I haven’t had to cut out hair once, even with two dogs.

The roller mop is also a big upgrade. It scrubs properly, uses fresh water as it goes, and reaches right up to edges. Combined with the improved OMNI Station, which now takes up less room and gives you visual water tank levels, the whole cleaning process is more hands-off than ever.

Navigation is quick and the mapping is excellent, though it still gets caught on cords now and then. You’ll want to tidy up a bit before each clean, which is a shame given how smart everything else is. Voice control works for simple tasks, but I mostly stuck with the app.

All up, although it does have a high price, this is one of the most complete robot cleaners out there. You’re getting a lot here, power, proper scrubbing, and real automation that actually makes life easier.
