Ask Siri to turn off the lights, and control much more - remotely from your iPhone. The HomeKit family of products makes all your connected devices work smarter for your benefit.
How do you get HomeKit?
HomeKit is the term/badge that is used by manufacturers to show their products are compatible with the Home App.
Home is an App for your iPhone or iPad, it's part of the iOS so simply open up the Home app on your iOS device - many of us hadn't noticed that it was already on our devices, but going to the App Store and searching for it prompted us.
How do I get HomeKit on my Apple TV?
On your Apple TV, go to Settings and select Accounts. Sign in to your iCloud with the same Apple ID that you're signed in on your iPhone. Your Apple TV should now be visible via the home app.
Setting up a HomeKit accessory to work with the Home App is simple. Just add the accessory in the Home App or scan the HomeKit setup code found on the accessory itself or in its instructions - and it’s instantly paired with your iOS device. The Home App will also recognise existing HomeKit accessories that have been set up using other apps.
The Home App groups accessories by room, so you can easily control devices in any part of your house with a tap or a click. You can, of course, tell Siri to do things like “turn off my bedroom lights” but it's so much better than that - you can actually trigger a series of actions automatically based on the time of day, your location, sensor detection and more.
Location: Set your lights to turn on as soon as you arrive home.
Time: Have your lights dim at 9:00 pm, before you go to bed.
Action: Use a motion sensor in the doorway to turn on your kitchen lights when you walk in.
Occupancy: Trigger a scene based on who’s home, like automatically turning the lights off as you leave if nobody else is there.
If you have an AirPlay 2 enabled TV, you can add it to the Home App and control it like any other accessory - turning it on and off, changing the volume and so on.
The Home App also allows you to create custom scenarios (they call them scenes), and these will enable multiple accessories to work in combination - all with a single command. Once you've set everything to match your exact needs, you can just press an icon to perform more complex tasks like dimming the lights and turning on the television for a little movie and chill session.
Siri is ready to activate anything you've got in your setup, so you can ask Siri to turn an appliance on or off, dim your lights, change the song, set one of your scenes, or play movies and music on your AirPlay 2 enabled TV from your iPhone or iPad.
Popular commands,
"Hey Siri, turn off the lights downstairs."
"Hey Siri, set my bedtime scene."
"Hey Siri, play some jazz in the kitchen."
