The Logitech MX Master 4 is one of the most capable productivity mice on the market.

While it keeps the familiar design and precise performance the MX series is known for, Logitech has introduced some significant upgrades that set it apart. Customisable haptic feedback and the new Actions Ring gives users a level of control and personalisation that goes far beyond a standard mouse.

Combined with stronger Bluetooth connectivity, quieter clicks, and a cleaner, anti-stain finish, the MX Master 4 is a premium tool aimed at users who value precision, comfort, and productivity.

PROS CONS
  • New haptic feedback adds tactile confirmation
  • Actions Ring speeds up creative workflows
  • Improved anti-stain finish and quieter clicks
  • Strong Bluetooth connection
  • Excellent comfort and tracking
  • Mac version lacks Logi Bolt receiver
  • Heavy at 150g
  • Designed for palm grip

Price & Competition

The MX Master 4 for comes in at about $248, which definitely puts it in premium territory. The new haptic feedback, Actions Ring and refined shape makes it clear Logitech’s aiming well above the usual “office” label. It’s not just designed to work with macOS and Windows; it’s designed to take full advantage of it.

In terms of competition, it doesn’t have much sitting next to it. The closest match is Logitech’s own MX Master 3S, which is still an excellent mouse and sits around $176. It’s a great option if you want something high-end without paying the full premium. But the MX Master 4 feels like the next step up.

Design and Comfort

At first glance, the MX Master 4 looks a lot like the previous model. It’s still a right-handed mouse with the sculpted shape and signature thumb rest that juts out on the left side. It’s comfortable, and the curved body supports your hand nicely. This design strongly favours a palm grip though, letting you rest your whole hand across the mouse which is perfect for fine, controlled movements in creative software. So if you tend to use a claw or fingertip grip, you might find it a little difficult to get used to.

At 150 grams, it’s heavy. Anyone coming from a gaming mouse will notice the difference straight away, this isn’t meant to flick around or be lifted off the mousepad. This is intentional though, the weight gives it a balanced feel that helps with slower, more precise movements you’d use in Photoshop, Lightroom, or Final Cut Pro and that stability is exactly what makes it a good fit for creative work.

It now uses an anti-stain, anti-discolouration coating that helps it stay cleaner. The new Quiet Click switches are incredibly soft and they’re very quiet. You still get the satisfying feel of a click, but you don’t get the sharp noise that can potentially disturb quiet spaces.

There’s a good range of buttons, toggles and switches here. Up top, you get the main left and right clicks, and there is what Logitech calls a MagSpeed scroll wheel in between. Behind it is a button that toggles on SmartShift. This changed between ratchet scroll where you can feel tactile bumps, and free-spin in which it rolls more smoothly, based on how fast you spin the wheel. It takes some getting used to, but its very useful.

On the side, you’ll find the horizontal scroll wheel, three thumb buttons, and the new dedicated Actions Ring button, which triggers the radial shortcut menu on-screen. Every control feels deliberate and well-positioned, and once you’ve used it for a while, your fingers start to find everything instinctively.

It comes in two colours, Space Black and White Silver. The version we tested was White Silver, and it looks right at home next to a MacBook or Studio Display.

Features

The MX Master 4’s headline feature is its customizable haptic feedback that responds to your actions with subtle vibrations. You can feel a soft tick when something snaps into place, a pulse when you trigger a shortcut, or a slight resistance when making fine adjustments in editing apps. It’s small, but it adds a surprising amount of precision and focus to your work. So much so that after a period of time with it other mice didn’t feel quite right when using Photoshop or Davinci Resolve.

The new Actions Ring gives quick access to a variety of tools to save time. It’s a fully cutomisable radial menu you can pull up at your cursor with a thumb press, putting whatever shortcuts you want, right where you need them. You can quickly access AI tools like ChatGPT, or Google Gemini, take notes, open apps, take audio recordings, assign it to a keyboard key and a lot more. To add to that it's compatible with individual apps and programs as well, so if you’re using Photoshop Final Cut or Davinci Resolve you get a radial of tools specific to those programs. You can even download what other people have setup and use their profiles. It’s a gamechanger and is genuinely helpful. Instead of jumping between menus or remembering keybinds, you just press your thumb and select what you need. It’s brilliant.

Performance

Under the hood, it uses Logitech’s 8,000 DPI Darkfield sensor, which tracks perfectly. As mentioned the MagSpeed scroll wheel makes a return too.

The battery life hasn’t changed, it still lasts around 70 days, but it has an upgraded larger 650 mAh cell to handle the new haptic motor and upgraded Bluetooth chip. And charging is done via USB-C, and a minute or two of plug-in time gives you hours of use.

Connectivity and Software

One big thing to note is that the Mac version connects only through Bluetooth, there’s no Logi Bolt receiver included in the box. This wasn’t a problem, I had no issues with connectivity or latency.

The brains behind all these new features is Logitech’s Logi Options+ software. This program allows for an elite level of customisation. You can change the haptic feedback, build your Actions Ring layout, set up gestures, and configure Flow, which still lets you move between multiple computers and even copy files back and forth.

The software is clean and incredibly easy to use, but it does require macOS 13 or Windows 10 and up for full support. It’s here where the mouse really earns its reputation as a productivity tool, as you can alter it to suit your needs exactly.

Verdict

The MX Master 4 represents Logitech at its best. Every part of it feels considered, from the balanced weight and ergonomic shape to the new haptic engine that makes each action feel more deliberate.

The Actions Ring adds a genuinely useful layer of control that improves speed and efficiency in creative applications, and the quieter clicks and upgraded finish make it even more pleasant to use day after day.

Connectivity is rock solid, the performance is flawless, and the software integration through Logi Options+ allows for deep personalisation.

It’s not just a minor upgrade, it’s a confident evolution of a design that already set the standard. For professionals who spend hours at their desk and want a mouse that combines precision with comfort and reliability, the MX Master 4 stands out as one of the most refined and capable productivity accessories available today.
