As students prepare to head back to school, it can be difficult deciding which device would match your needs. If you’re wondering what the best MacBook would be, we help breakdown the different models, what they have to offer and what they would be best suited for.

Best Performance: MacBook Pro 16-inch

This model is the most powerful MacBook Pro ever. It features the M1 Pro and M1 Max chip which provide ground-breaking performance and battery life. The M1 Max is known to be the most powerful chip created for the Pro series. It offers faster graphics processing and double the memory. Students such as artists and graphic designers will be able to find the power they may be searching for in this model. The 16-inch screen provides sufficient working space which makes it excellent to navigate and interact with programs such as Photoshop and Final Cut Pro. The size of the MacBook Pro means that the device is able to offer more ports of connection like HDMI and an SD card slot for maximum compatibility. It’s obvious with features like this come with a high cost but if you don’t mind spending a little extra cash, this model is the way to go.

Best Budget-Friendly: MacBook Air 13-inch

One of the best features of the latest MacBook Air is the Apple M1 chip. The first chip that was designed specifically just for the Mac. The MacBook Air M1 can provide up to 18 hours of battery life which is basically six more hours free of charge. This gives students enough time to finish assignments and projects after a day of class without the need to carry a charger. When the Air model first landed in stores, people were often tempted as it was the lightest MacBook yet. That meant more convenience for the user but it also signified less power and battery life which wasn’t beneficial at all. With the M1 chip, this allows students to obtain high levels of performance and he capability to utilise more pro applications with no issue at all.

Best Alternative: MacBook Pro 13-inch

With similar features and benefits as the MacBook Air, the MacBook Pro is a great middle-ground. Whether it’s Microsoft, Adobe Cloud or just in app programs, the MacBook Pro has more than enough capability to run everything you need thanks to the M1 and Rosetta 2. It’s not as imposing as the new MacBook Pro models but in comparison to the MacBook Air, the only differences are the brighter screen which is amazing for image and video editing abilities. For students who would love to reserve their MacBook’s portability while having additional power and battery life, the MacBook Pro 13-inch is the one for you.

Best Overall: MacBook Air 13-inch (M1)

For the vast majority of students, the MacBook Air is a must have. The MacBook Air is lightweight which makes it suitable to carry around campus. It provides over 12-hours of battery life which is more than enough for a full day of classes. Another bonus is the 8GB of memory space it supplies which is capable for any sort of documentation or creative use students may utilise. We doubt students may come across any issues with the MacBook Air as the M1 chip will be able to operate majority of applications and platforms the MacBook Pro would be able to perform. The sleek device manages to provide two USB-C ports and on top of a Thunderbolt 2 port that enables more options to use with other electronics if necessary.
