DJI are masters in the aerial drone space, and their now iconic MAVIC series is about to get a new family member - the DJI Mavic 3.

For those new to the Mavic design and what makes it so popular, these drones provide incredibly stable flight (along with typically longer flight times) and can capture amazing video + photographic footage from the built-in gimbal camera system. They are perfect for taking with you on adventures thanks to the smart design that lets us fold the propeller arms inwards for more secure, easier transport.

Omnidirectional Obstacle Sensing built into the Mavic 3 helps even novices to have a collision-free flight, so pilots can more easily focus on capturing the best footage. Multiple wide-angle vision sensors onboard work seamlessly with a high-performance vision computing engine to sense obstacles from above and below, forward and behind, in some situations planning a safe flight route to avoid them, other times it will simply stop you before you fly into that tree - great in both cases!

DJI also have a feature named ActiveTrack which enables the Mavic 3 track and follow a chosen subject as it moves, it can then fly alongside around the moving subject. With ActiveTrack 5.0 if the subject moves too fast and goes out of frame for a moment, the Mavic 3 drone will attempt to continue to track and frame the subject intelligently with the goal to re-acquire the subject when it reappears. ActiveTrack was a stand out feature of the previous-gen Mavic PRO and we’re excited to see these improvements in action.

Via DJI: "These new directions enable much more fluid and diverse drone and camera movement while using ActiveTrack."

The Mavic 3 takes this ease of use and performance to a new level, and they’ve teamed up with Hasselblad again for more improvements to the already impressive camera systems.

The legendary Swedish brand Hasselblad has customised the aerial camera for DJI Mavic 3, embedding a professional-grade 4/3 CMOS in an incredibly compact space. Rigorous Hasselblad standards are applied to both hardware performance and software algorithms. During shooting, RGB colour data obtained by the sensor gets converted through Hasselblad's unique image and colour process so that natural colours in various scenes can be precisely reproduced without any presets. The higher dynamic range allows for a more natural transition between highlights and shadows, preserving rich visual information with a greater sense of depth.

The results of this partnership are professional quality footage captured from a drone with excellent battery life and range, that easily fits in your hand, it’s a marvel of modern technology.

The new DJI Mavic 3 Drone is incoming to New Zealand right now, keep your eyes on the DJI Store for the latest!
