Microsoft Flight Simulator is about to enter another testing phase, this time it’s a closed BETA for Virtual Reality headset users.

As this is a closed BETA we’ll actually have to register to take part in this round of testing, we expect the more commonplace open BETA testing is something that will come later on.

This Flight Simulator closed BETA also has a non-discloser-agreement (NDA) which you’ll have to agree too, this includes the following rules to consider

  • Do not take photos, videos, or audio recordings of the Game.
  • Do not post photos, videos, or audio recordings of the Game on any venue.
  • Do not describe any part of the Game on any venue unless we’ve instructed you to.
  • Do not allow others to watch you play the Game.
  • Do not leave the Game running unattended.

Since the Microsoft Flight Simulator Insider program requires participants to share personal information, applicants must be over 18.

What VR hardware will I need for this closed BETA test?

The Microsoft Flight Simulator team is looking for dedicated Microsoft Flight Simulator community members to help test out upcoming VR builds. To ensure focused feedback & learnings, they will be rolling out the Closed Beta into two phases.

- The first phase will focus on Windows Mixed Reality Devices

- The second phase will expand to include additional devices.

How can I apply to take part in the closed BETA?

It is important to understand that signing up for the Closed Beta does not mean you will gain access, members will likely be chosen based on submitted DXDIAG system information and other factors. If you’ve been a alpha/beta tester in the past, you are not automatically enrolled in this and must re-apply.

Sign ups for this Flight Simulator VR BETA are available here.

Via the Microsoft Flight Simulator team: Our goal for Microsoft Flight Simulator VR is to create an incredible and immersive experience. We are excited to share this with you and look forward to hearing your feedback! We want to continue to make this for our core audience and we can’t think of a better way than to have our core audience help us test. While we wish we could invite everyone unfortunately this won’t be the case. Much like our previous Alpha and Beta phases, we will only allow a select group of testers at any given time.

Many Flight Simulator players have flown to see their own houses in game, the level of details is quite remarkable!

Even without VR, If you haven’t already played the new Microsoft Flight Simulator you’re in for a treat! The game is available right now via the Xbox Game Pass for PC subscription service and has some of the best graphics ever seen, pushing PCs around the world to their absolute limits when the graphics are cranked to the max, with stunning cloud and lighting effects that make this a truly wonderful simulator experience for anyone with passion for aircraft, and offers a great new way to travel the world, in virtual sense at least.
