UPDATE: Check out the new RX 7700 XT & RX 7800 XT Graphics Cards!

The first wave of AMD Radeon 7000 Series Desktop Graphics Cards are available now in New Zealand! This release includes both the Radeon RX 7900 XT and RX 7900 XTX Graphics Cards models from top brands PowerColor, Sapphire, ASRock, Gigabyte & Asus!

These first 7000 series graphics cards to release are highest end specification, but unlike the recent NVIDIA 40 series releases they don't require proprietary adaptors to connect to our power supplies and while large, they aren't too big, so they'll be a welcome option for many gamers who are looking to upgrade.

Via AMD "AMD Radeon RX 7000 Series graphics cards set a new standard for ultra-enthusiast class gaming performance. Featuring advanced AMD RDNA 3 compute units, blazing fast clock speeds, and chiplet technology to enable fluid, high-refresh rate gaming experiences. Breakthrough new levels of performance with up to 24GB of GDDR6 memory and 2nd generation AMD Infinity Cache to deliver an incredible experience at 4K and beyond."

Many of these new options follow the reference design from AMD, so let's jump straight into the essentials for those first then move on to some new aftermarket versions for more detail.

RX 7900 XT Reference Cooler - Essential Specifications:

  • 1x HDMI
  • 2x DisplayPort
  • 1x USB-C
  • 2x 8-Pin Power Inputs (750w Recommended PSU)
  • 2.5 Slot Form Factor
  • 20GB GDDR6 Memory
  • Dimension: 276(L)x 113(W)x 51(H)mm

RX 7900 XTX Reference Cooler - Essential Specifications:

  • 1x HDMI
  • 2x DisplayPort
  • 1x USB-C
  • 2x 8-Pin Power Inputs (800w Recommended PSU)
  • 2.5 Slot Form Factor
  • 24GB GDDR6 Memory
  • Dimension: 287(L)x 123(W)x 51(H)mm

The XTX version looks similar, but internal memory specification increases to 24GB

The max display resolution is 7680×4320, with 4x displays supported.

Moving onto the Aftermarket cooler designs, and starting off with PowerColor, who are an AMD exclusive partner (PowerColor do not do Nvidia Graphics Cards). Looking at the new Hell Hound RX 7900 XT we can see some massive changes to cooler shroud and backplate, adding to the build quality and while introducing some additional customisable flare through the use of a hardware switch for blue or purple lighting effects on the cooler fans.

There is a hardware LED switch on the graphics card to change between blue and purple LED

The Hellhound RX 7900 XT backplate has a similar design, with LED logo and air pass-through cut away on the far end

It's not just about cool colours though, they've increased the copper plate area to 91x 89x 2.6mm, providing direct contact with the GPU while covering VRAM to increase the heat transfer threshold to the max. The new design of PowerColor fans with 9 blades now generate better airflow and air pressure under the same noise level, improving cooling performance to reduce GPU temperatures by more than 3°C compared previous generations.

The aftermarket Gigabyte Gaming OC changes up the rear IO a little, doing away with the USB Type-C in favour of a second HDMI output. The 3X WINDFORCE cooling system features three 100mm fans, with an alternate spin on that middle fan to help reduce the turbulence of adjacent fans and increase airflow pressure. There are nine composite copper heat pipes, a large vapor chamber directly touches the GPU, all working together to provide high efficiency heat dissipation.

The Windforce 3X cooling system is edged by various line details, similar to those on the backplate.

The Gaming OC uses Gigabyte Control Center to customise an LED Gigabyte logo on the side too, with 16.7 million colour options and numerous lighting effects, allowing for various lighting effect or easy sync with other components. The Gaming OC also includes a GPU support bracket to keep this heavy GPU nice and straight in PC builds.

Exciting times ahead! Once released, all available AMD RX 7000 Series Graphics Cards are now available in the AMD Store, and in the categories for the Radeon RX 7900 XT or Radeon RX 7900 XTX Graphics Card models specifically.

Is there going to be stock of the Aftermarket Add In Board Partner cards available on release or just the reference designs from the Board Partners to start with? Cheers!

I saw a small number of aftermarket PowerColor HH stock landed yesterday (and some reference Gigabyte versions, and lots of ASRock), I'll check in with the warehouse team late today to see if Sapphire and Asus are going to make it in time for launch. At 3am the PB Tech website will make all models available for order though (some with TBC ETA) so you'll be able to order whichever model you want most.

Have we missed the boat on the 7900 xtx, or are more going to become available today?

Hi Mooty, I've just setup stock alerts (there is a button for this a little bit under the price on PB Tech website) on VGAPOW27910, VGAASR07910, VGAPOW27911 and VGASAP27910 models so the website will email me if stock +1. As the PB team continues verifying orders and stock continues to come in it's possible some will become available again soon.

Will this be available in the system builder tool? I was thinking of getting this card with the AMD Ryzen 7 7700X but would prefer for someone professional to assemble it

Yes we'll be adding the new options to system builder shortly after release. We also have pre-built Ryzen 7000 systems ready to go + upgrade with these new GPU options = https://www.pbtech.co.nz/brand/NZXT
