UPDATE: New RTX 40 Series NVIDIA GeForce Graphics Cards are available now!

As widely expected amid a constant buzz in recent weeks, Nvidia just officially unveiled their GeForce RTX 3070, RTX 3080 and RTX 3090 "Ampere" series - and they really are looking like something special! With features that include HDMI 2.1 (8K 60FPS!), PCI Express 4.0, and the use of Micron GDDR6X memory being highlighted amongst benchmarks for the RTX 30 series.

And those benchmarks looked pretty fantastic, further backed by a powerful statement from Jensen Huang of Nvidia “Today’s launch of Nvidia Ampere GPUs is a giant step into the future, the work of thousands of engineering years, the GeForce RTX 30 Series delivers our greatest generational leap ever. Nvidia RTX fuses programmable shading, ray tracing and AI for developers to create entirely new worlds. Twenty years from now, we’ll look back and realise that the future of gaming started here.”

Nvidia has exceeded performance expectations, the GeForce RTX 3090, 3080 and 3070 GPUs where shown offer up to 2x the performance and 1.9x the power efficiency over the previous Turing-based generation.

Essentials:

  • RTX 3090 Graphics Card
  • 24GB of GDDR6X
  • 10496 CUDA Cores
  • PCIe 4.0
  • HDMI 2.1
  • DisplayPort 1.4a
  • RTX 3080 Graphics Card
  • 10GB GDDR6X
  • 8704 CUDA Cores
  • PCIe 4.0
  • HDMI 2.1
  • DisplayPort 1.4a
  • RTX 3070 Graphics Card
  • 8GB GDDR6
  • 5888 CUDA Cores
  • PCIe 4.0
  • HDMI 2.1
  • DisplayPort 1.4a

The use of HDMI 2.1 paves the way forward to 8K 60FPS gaming, while enabling high speed 4K 120FPS options too. Gaming at 7680x4320 gives us 4x the pixel of 4K, with a significant demands on the memory side loading in assets and game data. This is the challenge that cards like the RTX 3090 where built for though, with double the memory of the RTX 2080Ti, the new RTX 3090 has whopping 24GB of extremely fast GDDR6X!

Nvidia then talked a bit about powerful new tools for gamers, including NVIDIA Broadcast, which harnesses AI to turn any room into a home broadcast studio. This universal plugin enhances the quality of microphones and webcams with RTX-accelerated AI effects, such as audio noise removal, virtual background effects and webcam auto frame. The aim is to make it easier for everyone to host a quality stream, and having already undergone some testing in the community it really is looking good.

NVIDIA Reflex is a new suite of technologies that optimise and measure system latency. Nvidia teased a Low-Latency Mode, this was said to be integrated into popular esports games such as Apex Legends, Call of Duty: Warzone, Fortnite and Valorant - and that it reduces latency by up to 50 percent, with an analyzer mode being integrated into upcoming new gaming monitors.

Nvidia & Epic Games also announced that Fortnite will be adding real-time ray tracing, Nvidia DLSS and other exclusive technologies, making the game more beautiful and even more responsive. Gamers will experience these features in all Fortnite modes, as well as in a special new Creative mode map, called RTX Treasure Run, which has been specifically designed to highlight ray tracing.

Via Marcus Wassmer, engineering director of Graphics at Epic Games, “The GeForce RTX 30 Series is a testament to NVIDIA’s dedication to ray tracing and artificial intelligence, second-generation ray tracing, innovative use of AI with DLSS, and a large raw performance boost make the GeForce RTX 30 Series a truly impressive powerhouse for graphics technology in gaming.”

So yes, fun times ahead!

The team is busy checking dates and loading images for the first wave of the new Nvidia RTX 3000 series graphics cards incoming to New Zealand from Asus, Gigabyte and PNY - and these aftermarket versions are looking totally awesome!

The shipping date changed on the 3080 that was sitting in my shopping cart from a day to a month! Almost screwed myself over as I am waiting for one at another shop and nearly cancelled it. EDIT: It was available again so I ordered it. Automated email confirms "Estimated shipping date" as tomorrow. Fingers crossed I will call them tomorrow to double check.

Saw RTX 3060Ti on a retailer's shelf today.. of a certain brand's all lineup.. however retailer didn't disclosed the price neither time when they go live but guess estimating on Thursday Morning. - Must say I did saw plenty of stock so if someone is willing to stay awake - don't be - seems there is ample stock of it and if that retailer can have so many surely PB must have more than plenty too.

Bugger. Well my first card died, RMA'd it and had to wait for new one to come in. Once it finally did the lady at the front counter tried to charge me extra as the price had changed. I was gobsmacked, and said to her that's illegal, this is an RMA replacement card. She tried to justify it and I was like this is not my problem, I want to talk to a manager. Anyways she spoke with him and sorted it but it was a little frustrating!!!

wow that's a bit unsettling to hear. This is my first major purchase with PBtech. So I haven't had any experience in dealing with them . And sorry to hear about your card. I hope your new one serves you well

(Sorry PrettyL8 below, I tried to update your comment to show link and deleted it) - PB web sales can likely help with this. The best way to get in touch will be via https://www.pbtech.co.nz/my-account/orders and click on the RTX order, at the bottom of the page is a "contact us about this order", pop in a quick message to let them know the price changed just after you placed the order.

I would have to say, depending on who you get its really hit and miss. Some of their staff are really really good, helpful and knowledgeable but some are well.... not that at all. Other than that I haven't had really any bad experiences. New card has been running for 5 days now, I am just keeping fingers and toes crossed this was lasts.

Glad to hear your new card is running well. Pretty excited to get my EVGA Beast ! I wonder if any of the cards actually come with an anti sag bracket. I know some of the MSI cards did. They were HUGE though. I always worry about GPU Sag which cards of this sheer size

My ROG Strix 3090 OC was dead and returned to Pbtech RA yesterday, it looked like a short of circuit happened with that graphic card. Several projects I'm doing rely on the capability of that GPU. I'm considering buying another one while waiting for the news from RA since I have no idea how long will it take for the repair/replacement : (

Hi Ben, Yesterday I contacted PBTech online support to ask for an eta on my ordered 3080 Strix oc. Support gave me an eta of "Early January", but three weeks ago you estimated enough stock would arrive by 27 Nov 2020. There is a big difference between these dates. Could you please confirm which is most correct? Thanks.

Hi Niklas, this is a rough one sorry. I can see the shipment landed early but only contained some of the expected VGAAS33082 + VGAAS33083, with no VGAAS33085. The ETA has since been updated to 01/01/2021. I'll ask web sales about GPU alternatives now.

Wanna say a HUGE!!! thank you to @Ben @pbtech for all the time and effort hes putting into these comments. I followed his advice on the 15th of October and purchased a EVGA FTW3 Ultra, as he said it was a model worth considering if i wanted the highest chance of receiving stock. He was 100% correct it arrived on the 26th of October. Ben is truly a great New Zealander! He deserves a raise regarding how well they are handling all the questions. Mean Mahi Ben! You deserve all the treats. Also in relation to the watch dogs promotion. Getting around 60-70ish fps 1440p full steam ultra, rtx dlss etc, (i7-7700k, 32gb 2800mhz CL15). Watch Dogs is through GEFORCE. Flick GEFORCE an email asking why GEFORCE doesn't include Oceania in their promotions. That's what i did and when they replied they sent a code. :) Remember folks, Ben is not CEO of NVIDIA, he wont have all the answers. PB tech is not NVIDIA, nor is it GEFORCE. THEY CERTAINLY AREN'T INTERNATIONAL FREIGHTERS. PB Tech do not make video cards, they do not make drivers, they do not have control over shipping. Go easy on retailers, they may be in a very similar situation as yourselves. Kia Kaha PB Tech.

Ben can I ask why PB-Tech seem to struggle to get any ASUS 3080's in stock, the website just says 'Out of stock' & offers no indication of arrival dates. Also with the 3080TI 'supposedly' being released in Jan is it worth waiting till then or can we expect the same stock levels as the ASUS 3080? Thanks.
