The new Samsung 970 EVO NVMe M.2 SSD are available now! Though similar to the popular 960 EVO NVMe (which stands for Non-Volatile Memory Express) series drives, these new EVO 970 are a little faster in practically every respect, compared to the competition, the EVO SSDs are not only fast, but above all, they are consistently fast.
Both the 970 PRO & EVO feature a fancy new Phoenix controller, and for boosted write speeds, the 970 EVO’s Intelligent TurboWrite technology has a larger buffer size. With the latest V-NAND they are approximately 30% percent faster when compared to the last generation!
Samsung still positions these latest drive options for tech-savvy gamers and professionals who frequently work on video creation/editing and as NVMe SSD there is little we can really say about the performance the 970 EVO you don't already know, with the range getting top scores across the board and now receiving an increased manufacturer warranty, going from 3 with the previous gen up to 5 years with these latest versions.
The new 970 Evo comes in 250GB, 500GB, 1TB and 2TB variants and unless you peel off the sticker from the SSD you'll see little difference between the models - they all look great with a black PCB, interestingly, even the 2TB version is also single-sided, with no flash at the back.
Performance does vary a bit between the sizes though, especially in the potential sequential write speed, detailed quickly below.
250GB = up to 1,500MB/s
500GB = up to 2,300MB/s
1TB/2TB = up to 2,500MB/s
The new 970 PRO takes things even further too, with a blazing 3,500MBs capable on both the 512GB and 1TB models.
All extremely fast indeed! If you're looking for the best NVMe drive, you should definitely check out the latest EVO 970 M.2 range in the Samsung Store today.
